Chaekuk Na
Chaekuk Na is a Senior Research Associate at Rutgers, The State University of New Jersey. He received his B.S. and M.S. in 2003 and 2005, respectively, followed by Ph.D. in Civil Engineering from Korea Advanced Institute of Science and Technology (KAIST) in 2009 in Korea. He joined Dr. Nassif’s RIME group in 2011. His expertise includes the research area of Structural Health Monitoring (SHM) and field testing of bridges, advanced Weigh-In-Motion (WIM) technology for smart roadways, and advanced cementitious materials. Before joining to RIME Group, he was a visiting scholar at Columbia University in 2010 in the department of Civil Engineering and Engineering Mechanics.
His research topics cover asset management, probabilistic risk assessment, overweight enforcement policy, advanced weigh-in-motion (WIM) system, structural health monitoring of bridges, and advanced cementitious materials. The recent project for NJDOT under the Bridge Resource Program helped develop in-depth expertise in the asset management and risk assessment throughout the AASHTOWare Bridge Management (BrM). He also is working on the development of maintenance strategies of bridges for state’s asset management. Currently, he is working on the development of an advanced WIM (A-WIM) system that can provide higher accuracy of WIM system for enforcement purpose for a project under USDOT Tier 1 University Transportation Center (UTC) entitled “Connected Cities for Smart Mobility toward Accessible and Resilient Transportation (C2SMART)”. His profound knowledge of the WIM establishment will help the project develop the procedure for reliable and accurate WIM data in a practical manner.
