Dr. Hani Nassif
Dr. Hani Nassif, Professor and Director of Rutgers Infrastructure Monitoring and Evaluation (RIME) Group, presented a seminar titled “The Past, Present, and Future of Structural Health Monitoring (SHM) of Civil Infrastructure” at C2SMART center on Wednesday, December 13, 2017.
The webinar showcased Dr. Nassif’s extensive experience in Structural Health Monitoring and field testing of infrastructure facilities. A brief overview of how SHM and sensor technologies evolved over the last three decades was presented with emphasis on current programs for the SHM of civil infrastructure in the NY/NJ Metropolitan Area. Various projects highlighting different types of sensors to measure serviceability and other long-term deformations were introduced to show how the SHM process has successfully employed structural modeling and probabilistic techniques.
Dr. Nassif concluded that with the continuous advancement of low cost sensor technology and robust prediction techniques, SHM unique solutions developed and adopted in response to various agencies’ design and construction issues have led to major improvements in model predictions, calibration of reliability-based design codes, and successful implementation of technical specifications.
