Running Successful Student Chapters: Experiences from NYU and Cal Poly SLO
On Tuesday, January 26, current ITE co-President, Logan Wagner and former chapter President Jannie Gao hosted a webinar on running successful ITE student chapters, along with Katie Lee and Cody Lim from Cal Poly SLO. The hosts shared anecdotal experiences of the two chapters in recent years and recommendations for the future of student chapters in light of the COVID-19 pandemic. The students shared their knowledge about outreach, event planning, on-campus engagement, membership retention, and leadership, along with the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic on their respective chapters. They explained how they navigated the transition to online activities and how the pandemic has affected events and member engagement. The presentation was followed by a Q&A session in which the student leaders shared best practices, challenges, and lessons learned.
The webinar attendance was roughly composed of one-third each of undergraduate students, faculty advisors, and transportation professionals respectively, with a total of 42 attendees. A recording of the webinar is available to ITE members on the ite.org website.
