On December 3, the NYU-ITE Student Chapter held another installment of the ongoing Tech & Career Talks series with Mike Salatti, Vice President, Transportation Services at GPI. He discussed basics such as the cost of getting work, responding to RFPs, and making a profit. Salatti also shared tips on writing Competitive Proposals and Award Responses by relating to the ITE chapter’s success in award submissions. He stressed the importance of Proposal Review with the reviewer in mind and the importance of following the RFP/Award Submission Guidelines for the best chance of success. He also spoke about proposal layout, aesthetics, professionalism, writing style and quality control going into each RFP submission, and gave different examples of proposal decision processes. The event ended with a Q & A session in which audience members reflected on their own experiences and how they would try to incorporate these new tips in their academic or professional work.

About the speaker:

Michael Salatti is a graduate of Polytechnic Institute of Technology, receiving a BS in Civil Engineering in 1980 and an MS in Transportation Planning & Engineering in 1981. As director of GPI’s transportation services department, he is responsible for QA/QC review, management of all project scopes and client coordination and marketing. The GPI Transportation Group boasts a team of over 50 professionals.

Mr. Salatti has been a dedicated member of ITE since 1980 and has served in a variety of positions, including President of the ITE Met Section, and recently completed his term as the Northeastern District International Director.
