Autonomous Driving and Energy-Efficient Traffic Smoothing
Professor Benedetto Piccoli presents some revised recent results on wave dissipation via autonomous vehicles and assisted driving. Simulation and experimental successes paved the road to target large-scale impact. Then, a highway level project is discussed together with the many existing challenges. Finally, a math perspective of the tools available to tackle the project is presented.
Benedetto Piccoli is Distinguished Professor and the Joseph and Loretta Lopez Chair Professor of Mathematics at Rutgers University – Camden. He also serves as Vice Chancellor for Research. His research interests span various areas of applied mathematics, including control theory, traffic modeling and control, network flow, crowd dynamics, math finance and systems biology. He is the author of more than 280 research papers and 7 books. He is the recipient of the 2009 Fubini Prize, Plenary speaker at ICIAM 2011, 2012 inaugural Fellow of American Mathematical Society, and founder of the journal Networks and Heterogeneous Media.
