New UTEP research tool could solve parking problems on college campuses
This channel interviewed UTEP PhD candidate Okan Gurbuz and Professor Kelvin Cheu on finding a resolution to the issue that many universities across the country are having: finding enough parking. At the University of Texas at El Paso, students are constantly plagued by the issue of no parking and as a result some are forced to park illegally or far away, and as a result arrive late to their classes. Using engineering, Gurbuz with the help of Professor Cheu have created an algorithm to measure demand for parking and determine a fair price for the parking permits, while incorporating factors like parking spot location.
This research will soon be examined by a national agency, which means universities nationwide could incorporate this to find the supply and demand of parking permits, and eliminate parking complications for students.
