C2SMART Graduate Student Research Featured in TED Talk
Research by recent MS graduate Nick Caros was featured in a TED talk by Tommaso Gecchelin, co-founder of NEXT, on how car-jumping can transform transportation in cities. Caros worked with C2SMART Deputy Director Joseph Chow on research in partnership with NEXT. The company has developed technology for modular self-driving vehicles that can couple while in motion, providing a transfer-less travel experience for users from door to door without the significant cost of assigning vehicles to individuals. As shown in the slide shared by Gecchelin, Caros’ research results showed that the use of car jumping in a shared mobility system could improve efficiency by significantly reducing the total distance traveled by each vehicle.
