UTEP Team Presents C2SMART Project at ITE Keystone
Matthew Vechione and Okan Gurbuz, Ph.D. students at University of Texas at El Paso, presented their work on a C2SMART project at Keystone ITE 2018. The project is focused on identifying the unique mobility needs and preferences of seniors and developing a navigation app that meets those needs.
The project team, led by PI Kelvin Cheu, worked with the City of El Paso to conduct surveys at senior centers in the city to learn what features and functionality are most important to the app’s potential users. The survey’s results showed that respondents want driving navigation functions, with options to choose routes based on their main concerns, such as avoiding traffic congestion or parking availability. The findings from this survey were used to develop an app, which is currently undergoing testing.
