Saad Shaikh, General Manager at Chariot, provides an overview of the company’s service and his vision for the future of urban mobility. His talk also shares his insights into route design, crowdsourcing, and stop location planning process, as well as the particular benefits and challenges of the New York City market, including public-private partnerships and the impending L train shutdown.
Chariot is an app-based micro-transit service that offers affordable fixed route transit for commuters and private enterprises. The company operates 15-person Ford Transit Wagons and crowdsources its service areas from the public. Once a proposed route reaches a critical mass of backers, the route is launched, ensuring the company serves ‘transit deserts’ – areas where reliable and efficient public transit is lacking. Chariot was acquired by Ford Smart Mobility in 2016 and began offering service in New York City in August 2017.
Saad Shaikh is the General Manager of Chariot. He oversees all operations, sales, and marketing for the NY / Tri-State area. Prior to joining Chariot, he worked as the first Senior Operations Manager for Uber’s Southern California office, scaling the company’s growth from eight markets to over 250. Mr. Shaikh also has operational experience at the freight and logistics start-up Cargomatic and financial experience at JP Morgan. He holds an MBA from Columbia Business School and a Bachelor of Arts from UCLA.
